Self-Rated Health Status and Cardiorespiratory Fitness in a Sample of Schoolchildren from Bogotá, Colombia. The FUPRECOL Study
To evaluate the relationship between Self-Rated Health (SRH) and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in a sample of children and adolescents enrolled in official schools in Bogotá, Colombia. A cross-sectional study was performed with 7402 children and adolescents between 9 and 17 years of age. Participants were asked to rate their health based on eight validated questions, addressing the participants propensity for headache, stomach-ache, backache, feeling-low, irritability/bad mood, nervousness, sleeping-difficulties, and dizziness. The choices were “rarely or never”, “almost every month”, “almost every week”, and “more than once a week/about every day”. Participants performed the international course-navette shuttle run test to estimate CRF, and cut-off points for age and gender were used to categorize the healthy/unhealthy fitness zone according to the FITNESSGRAM® criteria. Overall, 16.4% of those surveyed reported a perception of irritability/bad mood “more than once a week/about every day”, followed by feeling-low and nervousness (both with 9.9%). Dizziness had the lowest prevalence with a percentage of 6.9%. Unhealthy CRF in boys increased the likelihood of headaches by 1.20 times, stomach aches by 1.31 times, feeling-low by 1.29 times, nervousness by 1.24 times, and dizziness by 1.29 times. In girls, unhealthy CRF increased the likelihood of headaches by 1.19 times, backache by 1.26 times, feeling-low by 1.28 times, irritability/bad mood by 1.17 times, sleeping-difficulties by 1.20 times, and dizziness by 1.27 times. SRH was associated with CRF in both genders. Early identification of children and adolescents with low CRF levels will permit interventions to promote healthy behaviors and prevent future diseases during adulthood. The FUPRECOL Study was possible due to the financial support provided by the Instituto Colombiano para el Desarrollo de la Ciencia y la Tecnología “Francisco José de Caldas” COLCIENCIAS (Contract No. 671-2014 Code 122265743978)

Cognitive problem-solving abilities and speech acts in children: an analysis in vulnerable family contexts
The goal of this study was to analyze the cognitive abilities involved in interpersonal problemsolving and their connection with speech acts in children from contexts of social vulnerability. The sample included 120 schoolchildren between the ages of 8-13 in Mendoza, Argentina. The results showed that the children from more vulnerable family backgrounds, presented significantly less expressive speech acts than children at low vulnerability. It was also observed that displayed significantly poorer identification of emotions and anticipated significantly more negative consequences. In contrast, children who had high level of protective factors identified significantly more emotions, tended to generate more alternatives and anticipated less negative consequences. These results highlight the importance of carrying out early evaluations in contexts of risk, taking a preventive approach, and articulating knowledge from the fields of psychology and linguistics in order to develop new kinds of intervention and support strategies destined to children in school contexts.Fil: Morelato, Gabriela Susana. Young people, young adults and Binge Drinking
Introduction and Purpose
The consumption of alcohol among young people and young adults has undergone, in recent decades, a sharp upsurge with the increasingly frequent intake of large quantities of alcohol. The aim of our study was to investigate socio-demographic, economic and behavioural factors that have a major impact on the voluntary alcohol habit in young people.
Methods
The survey was conducted via administration of an anonymous questionnaire based on “the WHO Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test”, disseminated on-line , to young people and young adults (aged 18 to 35)
Results
We examined a sample of 365 subjects. Consumption of wine and beer were predominant followed by super-alcohol mixes. We found correlations between alcohol use and the following variables: marital status (p<0.001), parental education(mother p<0.05; father p<0.001), income level(p<0.05), physical activity (p<0.05) and voluptuous habits(smoke and coffee: p<0.001.The 5% of men and 1% of women had car accidents during the previous year due to alcohol use and 15% said they did not remember what happened in an alcoholic evening once or twice a month.
Conclusions
The phenomenon of alcohol consummation is deeply ingrained in our reality, with dangerous episodes of binge drinking in young adults with a higher prevalence in the female sex
Research advances in Risaralda. An overview of 8 experiences
I am honored to present to you this remarkable book, a testament to the invaluable research conducted in the fields of Health, Law, Engineering, and Administrative Sciences. Each chapter within these pages represents the culmination of extensive investigations carried out by dedicated scholars affiliated with the Red Universitaria de Risaralda (RUN), a network comprising 15 esteemed higher education institutions.
Risaralda has emerged as a thriving hub for higher education, bolstered by its strategic geographical location, high quality of life, rich biodiversity, and competitive development. Today, Pereira ranks third in the index of university cities, with a student enrollment rate exceeding 63%. Close to 50,000 students pursue academic programs within the department. Notably, three institutions have achieved accreditation for their
excellence in education, positioning Risaralda among the most competitive regions in terms of accredited academic programs.
As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Red Universitaria de Risaralda in 2023, it is with great pride that we reflect on its pivotal role in fostering collaboration among public and private higher education institutions. Our mission has been twofold: attracting students to our region and supporting sustainable development and quality of life for our community. The mesa de investigación (research committee) has diligently coordinated the necessary actions to unite our researchers, facilitating an integrated approach to
various disciplines and themes associated with the challenges faced in our region.CONTENT

Sexology: body, mind and culture
This issue of Klinička psihologija gives you the opportunity to read abstracts of oral and poster presentations. The abstracts are grouped according to content. All areas of modern sexuality were covered: education, paraphilias, psychiatry, sexual health, gender identity, sexual aggression, sexual rights, sexual psychotherapy, basic research, sexual orientation, sexual medicine, sexually transmitted diseases, social sciences. Understandingly, the majority of abstracts cover different aspects of sexaul dysfunctions (aetiology, clinical presentation, therapy, management, etc.). The readers have the opportunity to read the works of hundreds of sexologists around the world (South Korean authors were well represented at the congress) and to get an insight into sexaul therapy and sexaul science of the 21st century
Toxocariasis in Honduras: Seroprevalence and Risk of Infection in Schoolchildren from a Coastal Community in Tela, Honduras
Background: Human toxocariasis is a globally distributed zoonotic disease mainly caused by Toxocara
canis, a common intestinal parasite of domestic dogs. In Honduras, favorable conditions for T. canis are
widespread and dog infection is widely known. However, epidemiological data for animal and human
infection are severely lacking.
Objectives: To determine the prevalence of anti-Toxocara antibodies in rural Honduran schoolchildren and
to identify socioeconomic and biological factors associated with seropositivity. A secondary objective of
comparing performance of the screening with the confirmatory test was also set.
Methods: Two cross-sectional studies conducted in 2015 and 2017 among schoolchildren living in rural
Honduras. Demographic and socio-epidemiological data were collected though individual interviews. A
blood sample was drawn to determine serum anti-Toxocara antibodies using a screening and a confirmatory test, TES-ELISA and Western blotting (WB), respectively. Eosinophilia was determined by complete haematological assay.
Results: Eighty-eight children completed the study. An overall prevalence of 90.9% was found by the TESELISA however, the confirmatory Western blot revealed a prevalence of 88.6% for anti-Toxocara
antibodies. TES-ELISA and WB showed an agreement of k = 0.87, an indicator of an almost perfect
agreement between the two diagnostic tools. Most WB-positive children were so for the lower molecular
protein bands, suggesting specificity for T. canis infection. Higher levels of eosinophilia were observed in
immunoreactive children and a statistically significant difference between the geometric means of
circulating eosinophils in seropositive versus seronegative children was found. None of the socioeconomic
factors analyzed were found statistically associated with antibody positivity.
Conclusions: The study confirms that T. canis transmission is present in Honduras and is affecting children
in the rural countryside. The high exposure as determined by high antibody titres and eosinophilia levels
among the studied children is a serious concern. Clinical examination of these children to assess their health status is warranted
Obesity is associated with psychosocial problems such as deficiencies in social coexistence, quality life and biomarkers. For the treatment of obesity, there is evidence that high intensity interval training (HIIT) is feasible to improve biomarkers and quality life in the adult population. In the school population, the evidence is more limited, creating a gap regarding its applicability.
The main purpose of the research has been to determine the variables that are being affected by childhood obesity from a global perspective and determine the effects of HIIT-based games applied in Physical Education classes on weight status, cardiorespiratory fitness and blood pressure of overweight and obese school children.Tesis Univ.
